Social Action CommitteeFirst we want to thank our generous Temple Judea family for sharing
Hanukkah with the teens who reside in the JAFCO village. We
had a very informative program on December 5th where the JAFCO chapter
president of Lake Worth-Boyton Beach, Roz Loss, presented a DVD and gave
a brief history and description of the the children and teens who
are orphans or in foster care at the JAFCO village. |

Food Program- Each year we collect over 400 bags of groceries on Yom Kippur for the Hungry in our Community. Now that we are in our wonderful new building, we will be collecting food on a year-round basis. |
||||||||
Clothing Program- this year “Fill the Cradle Drive” is in support of the migrant families in our area. New and nearly new clothing items for infants, toddlers and young children. can be brought to the temple and will be distributed within the community. |
||||||||
Youth Program- We arrange meaningful Community Service Projects for Junior and Senior High School Students through the auspices of Vickers House in West Palm Beach. We have an especially close arrangement with the Vickers House. Our committee member, Alan Levine works there as a volunteer. That institution provides a variety of meaningful services to the most destitute. |
||||||||
Mitzvah Days-We paint, clean, garden and do manual labor for people and organizations that need a hand. This is perhaps the most satisfying thing that we do. We walk away a little shabbier from a place that looks much better. We need projects. |
||||||||
Social Action Sabbaths-Creating an opportunity to highlight special issues and needs both local and international. A variety of speakers, activists and educators participate in designated worship services. |
||||||||
Charitable Giving-The value Temple Judea places on the mission of Tikun Olam is reflected in our financial commitment. A percentage of the annual budget is earmarked for Social Action projects. A contribution and support was given this past year to victims of hurricane Katrina. |

Gardens United-This is a coalition of religious institutions in Palm Beach Gardens. It is a forum of discussion of issues of mutual concern to all faiths. They provide active support to the Big Heart brigade of the Palm Beach Gardens Fire Department. Each year they prepare 30,00 Thanksgiving dinners for the needy across the county in a remarkable example of interfaith activism. Dr. Chuck Schneiderman represents us at Gardens United. He is a major force in the continued vitality of that organization. |

Religious Acton Center of the ORJ- The Reform Movement has an office in Washington that takes positions on domestic and international issues of social concern. Members and Board Members are encouraged to subscribe to a variety of newsletters and briefings that come from there weekly. The address is RAC.ORG. |
